The images of the suspect were shared on social networks by Maryland-National Capital Park Authorities.

An innocent male faced a torrent of online risks and abuse after being erroneously recognized in a viral video in which an angry bicyclist hurt a child.

The child and two others were setting up posters in support of George Floyd, the black male eliminated by a white police officer in Minneapolis.

In the video, which has now been viewed over 32 million times, the bicyclist was wrongly determined by internet sleuths as marketing executive Peter Weinberg.

His house address was shared online.

Mr Weinberg was wrongly determined when the incorrect date was connected to the initial appeal made by the authorities in Bethesda, US.

Mr Weinberg used the popular fitness tracking app Strava, which revealed him as having been on the Maryland bike trail on that day.

Nevertheless on the right date he was operating at home.

He was flooded with messages on various social media platforms accusing him of hurting the kid and of being racist.

Once his address had been shared by others – a practice understood as doxxing – the police had to patrol the area for his security, reported New york city magazine

” I just recently learned I have actually been misidentified in connection with a deeply disturbing attack,” Mr Weinberg tweeted.

” Please know this was not me. I have actually been in touch with the authorities and will continue to assist any way possible.”

Maryland’s Attorney General Brian Frosh tweeted that Mr Weinberg was not a suspect.

He was also omitted as a suspect in an official authorities report.

Another male, Anthony Brennan III, has now been charged with the attack.

Mr Weinberg has given that received lots of apologies from people who abused him online.

” First, I would like to apologise for becoming part of the mob falsely identifying Mr Weinberg as the bicycle rider who assaulted the girl in Bethesda,” tweeted Darryl Wharton Rigby.

” Like numerous I was incensed by the guy’s action and overdid …”

In his newest tweet, Mr Weinberg says: “We must align in the defend justice and equality – but not at the cost of due process and the right to personal privacy and safety.”
