The Michigan state legislature is working to ensure that its homeowners have oversight over Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan Legislature Speaker and Republican Lee Chatfield promised Saturday.

In an interview on ” Fox & Pals Weekend” with host Jillian Mele, Chatfield said that he recognized there are countless families throughout his state who have had their incomes removed, are hurting, and requiring responses from the state’s leadership.

” They’re being informed that they can’t work a job and look after their family. And, Michigan is an outlier with how we’re managing the COVID-19 pandemic And, our company believe here in Michigan– as Republicans– you can take COVID-19 seriously yet be more sensible in your restrictions and how you’re handling it. And, that’s what we’re calling on the guv to do and we don’t feel we have actually had that reasonableness as much as this point.”

Whitmer, a 48- year-old first-term guv, has drawn severe criticism from the method she has dealt with closing down her state to carrying out a “contract tracing” program to track the spread of the infection

A series of steps planned to stem the spread of coronavirus in the state have actually been deemed “heavy-handed” by many locals. April 9 modifications to her initial “stay-at-home order” included restrictions on going to buddies and relatives or traveling to vacation homes, and stops on sales of products such as furnishings and gardening products.

On Thursday, protesters gathered beyond Whimer’s house — the very same day reports emerged that she plans to extend the state’s coronavirus stay-at-home order by 2 weeks until Might 15.

This comes as the Michigan Legislature had set up a special session for Friday with the goal of developing an oversight committee to review Whitmer’s coronavirus orders and perhaps strip her of some of her powers, the Detroit Free Press reported

” You know, I think there’s an incorrect story that’s out there today, right?” Chatfield asked Mele. “I believe there [are] individuals saying that you have to pick either the economy or you to choose public health or you need to select civil liberties And, I state that’s an incorrect narrative. We can select all three. We can prioritize the public health while still being sensible, safeguarding constitutional rights, and guaranteeing that people can have their incomes back.”

” Here in our state today you have countless people who are disappointed and they don’t understand what data the governor is utilizing to make her choices. They have actually had their livelihoods completely eliminated and they’re demanding answers,” he mentioned.

” So, that’s why we produced a committee yesterday to ensure we have oversight over the guv, to guarantee that we are getting the answers that people are requiring from us as the lawmakers,” Chatfield explained.
