Bette Midler: If not for the gun, Martin and Zimmerman would both be alive

This afternoon, singer/actress Bette Midler used the George Zimmerman trial as an opportunity to bash guns:

Many Twitter users, including several fans, didn’t agree.!/mw1005/status/356167186278121473!/CycleMomFL/status/356166994766217216

It seems Bette is no better at logic than she is at climatology.

Editor’s note: We have edited the headline for clarity.

Chris Matthews: Paul Ryan’s pro-life views ‘almost like Sharia’

Chris Matthews just said Romney/Ryan is trying to implement their own kind of Sharia law. #smh

— Right In Academia (@RightInAcademia) October 17, 2012

Yep. He went there. Don’t believe Matthews could possibly be that big a jackass? Check out the video and see for yourself.

A couple of tingling liberals applauded Matthews’ screwy hyperbole:

I love that Chris Matthews is referring to anti-choice “personhood” bills as Christian Sharia Law. #debate

— Zack Ford (@ZackFord) October 17, 2012

Chris Matthews just played the Sharia card, appropriate way to define Republicans’Taliban views on women’s reproductive rights.#Debate2012

— michelle celarier (@hedgeygrl) October 17, 2012

Appropriate? On what planet?

Chris Matthews makes a good point. Rs are so freaked about sharia; their attempt to run country on religious principle is no different.

— Jen Hintz (@jen_hintz) October 17, 2012

Uh, no. Comparing Republicans’ desire to assign personhood to and protect the unborn to a murderous theocratic law is not only ridiculous, it’s downright vile. The only point Matthews has ever had is the one that’s on top of his head.

Twitterers with a firm grasp on reality were thoroughly disgusted:

FOOL > Chris Matthews : ‘Personhood’ Amendments ‘Almost Like Sharia’ No Obama – Vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan

Rep. Ed Royce on Hugo Chavez: ‘Good riddance to this dictator’

US House Foreign Affairs chairman @repedroyce does not mince words in reax to #Chavez death: “Good riddance to this dictator.”

— MichaelMathes (@MichaelMathes) March 5, 2013

We’re relieved that the U.S. Department of State has officially distanced itself from Dennis Rodman, “private citizen” and good pal of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. That still leaves the troubling problem of Rep. Jose Serrano, who is not a private citizen and who quickly tweeted his praise of “Mr. President” Hugo Chavez on hearing of his death today.

Fortunately, Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, was able to find just the right words to mark the occasion of Chavez’ death.

Chairman @repedroyce: “Good riddance to this dictator.” READ: #Chavez

— Foreign Affairs Cmte (@HFACrepublicans) March 5, 2013

Hugo Chavez was a tyrant who forced the people of Venezuela to live in fear. His death dents the alliance of anti-U.S. leftist leaders in South America. Good riddance to this dictator.

Venezuela once had a strong democratic tradition and was close to the United States. Chavez’s death sets the stage for fresh elections. While not guaranteed, closer U.S. relations with his key country in our Hemisphere are now possible.

Come again, Mark Cuban?!/mcuban/status/185906208492879872

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was trying to send a private Direct Message to someone tonight, but he ended up Tweeting to the world instead.  Of course, a mistweet is a great opportunity to poke a little fun:
